Paducah Tilghman senior Liam Black committed to run Track & Cross-Country in a signing ceremony held on March 21 at Paducah Tilghman High School.
Black’s most significant achievements were in Cross-Country. During the Fall 2023 season, Paducah Tilghman won its first regional championship since 2004 behind Black’s third place finish at 16:56. The regional win qualified the team for state, where they exceed expectations to finish third in the KHSAA Class 2A Boys Cross-Country championship. At the state meet Black finished 20th overall and was named to the All-State Cross-Country team.
“Liam has been such a positive example in practice and in conduct all four years that he’s been here,” said Paducah Tilghman Cross-Country head coach Jared Wynne. “Our success in Cross- Country was not because of me. It was because of the example that Liam set, tirelessly, year after year, picking up the younger team members, challenging the other members of the team. He’s made my job easy and it’s going to be hard to replace him.”
Black said he felt his time at PTHS has prepared him for athletics and academics at Centre.
“Athletically, my time as Tilghman has pushed me the past four years,” Black said. “I think, going into track and cross country there I’m going to be very prepared to take on whatever. In school I’ve been in AP classes so I feel good to take on Centre academically.”
Centre College, located in Danville, KY, has 24 intercollegiate teams that compete in the Southern Athletic Association in NCAA Division III. 45% of the students at Centre compete in varsity sports.
