PTHS junior Audrey Shirk has been accepted into the United States Coast Guard Academy Introduction Mission Summer Program. Shirk will be the first student from PTHS to attend the selective program.

The Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) is a one-week summer program. Participants work directly with Coast Guard officers, cadets and faculty members at the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut. Exclusively for students entering their senior year of high school, AIM is regarded as the most realistic of the service academy summer orientation programs.

“It is indeed an honor to be selected for one of the few spots available in the three in-person sessions of the USCGA AIM Program,” said Lieutenant Commander Daniel Outcalt.  “For Audrey, this program is the first step in navigating her future as an officer in the United States Coast Guard. She will experience much of the rigors of USCGA life, be evaluated by USCGA staff and start to make friendships that last a lifetime.  When she returns, she will know whether Academy life is the right fit for her to pursue her dream of becoming a commissioned officer in the United States Coast Guard.”
