Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program

The Kentucky Governor's Scholars Program is for academically talented students who have completed their junior year in high school.  To be eligible to apply, students must be in 11th grade at the time of selction, be a current resident of Kentucky, and have taken the PSAT, ACT, or SAT.  For five weeks during the summer, students will attend a residential program on a college campus where they will take courses in one of the focus areas they indicated on their application. The selection process is very competitive. Applications are usually available from guidance or on the Governor's Scholars website in late September.  There is no tuition cost to attend GSP.

Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts

The Kentucky Governor's School for the Arts is open to current 10th and 11th grade students. For three weeks in the summer, students attend classes and ready for performances in their arts area.  Areas available are instrumental music, vocal music, visual art, film and photography, dance, drama, architecture and design, creative writing, musical theatre, Auditions and/or a review of works are required.  Applications are usually due in January.  There is no minimum ACT or GPA to apply, and there is no tuition cost to attend GSA.

Commonwealth Honors Academy

The Commonwealth Honors Academy at Murray State University is a three week summer residential academic enrichment program for outstanding high school students who have completed their junior year in high school.  Minimum requirements to apply are a 3.5 unweighted GPA and a 25 ACT composite.  Applications are usually available in November of the student's junior year for the following summer and are due in March.  Students who attend will receive six hours of college credit, have the opportuntiy to take six additional hours of *tuition free college courses at Murray State University during their senior year, and be awarded a four=lyear $2000 per year housing scholarship to attend Murray State University.

Gatton Academy of Math and Science

The Gatton Academy of Math and Science at Western Kentucky University is a two year residential STEM program for intellectually gifted students who are juniors and seniors. The Gatton Academy will select approximately 95 Kentucky residents each year to attend the program.  The criteria to apply to Gatton Academy are the following:  Kentucky resident, 10th grade student at time of application and 11th grade at time of entry into Gatton Academy, completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra 2 by end of 10th grade, minimum ACT math of 22, submit all application matierals by February 1st of 10th grade year.

Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics

The Craft Academy for Excellence in Science and Mathematics at Morehead State University is a dual credit residential program for academically exceptional students who are juniors and seniors.  Criteria to apply to Craft Academy are the following:  Kentucky resident, current 10th grader student, completed Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra 2 by the end of 10th grade, score a minimum ACT English score of 18, ACT Reading of 22, and ACT Math of 22.  Applications are available in August for the next year's incoming class.  The deadline to apply is February 1st of 10th grade year.
