Dear Paducah Tilghman High School families,

Today I communicated with our board members about the current wave of COVID-19 cases affecting Paducah Tilghman High School. The number of positive cases and quarantines among our staff and students has continued to climb particularly at Paducah Tilghman today. Despite the stringent mitigation strategies that have proved successful over the last two years, the rise in the number of COVID positive students has had an incremental impact on the number of students quarantined, which in turn prevents us from providing the educational experience that Tilghman students deserve.

It is for these reasons that Paducah Tilghman High School will transition to all-virtual NTI learning for Thursday and Friday, January 13 and January 14. There will be no school Monday, January 17 in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. PTHS will return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, January 18.

All other school buildings- Paducah Middle School, Clark Elementary, McNabb Elementary, Morgan Elementary, Paducah Head Start and Choices- will continue with in-person instruction. We have not seen the same significant rise in student quarantines at our other schools that we have seen at Tilghman.

All PTHS athletic and extracurricular contests will pause during NTI, January 13-14. Plans to reschedule the basketball games against McCracken County High School and homecoming ceremony are underway.

Two days of meals will be available for PTHS students at each of our school buildings tomorrow except Clark. You can walk up or drive by to pick up meals. Keep an eye on KINVO and the web site for times and more information.

From the early days of the pandemic, we have kept the health of our school community the top priority in all decisions. I am hopeful that this brief pause can return us to more favorable conditions on Tuesday, January 18.

Sincerely,

Dr. Donald Shively, Superintendent, Paducah Public Schools
