PADUCAH — A senior at Paducah Tilghman High School is receiving national attention for her photography work — her work is set to be displayed at Carnegie Hall this summer in New York City.
Audrey Pullen, 17, earned several accolades from the national Scholastic Art & Writing Awards. The program aims to recognize and support creative teens, with nearly 110,000 teens applying for the competition with various art forms.
Pullen's black-and-white photo earned national gold medal recognition. Her photos of a horse and a baby won a regional gold key and regional silver key, respectively.
The program awarded around 300 gold and silver medals in the national photography category. Winners are chosen based on the entry's "originality, skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision," according to the program.
Certain gold medal winners will have their work displayed at the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards' National Ceremony starting in June at Carnegie Hall.
The 28 total categories for the awards include architecture, ceramics and glass, fashion, humor, poetry, and science fiction.
Pullen is set to attend Savannah College of Art and Design in the fall with a focus on photography and film. She works part-time for WPSD-TV as a studio floor director and on social media and website content.
Well-known alumni of the Scholastic Awards include Stephen King and Andy Warhol, who won the award as teens, according to the program's website.
