Yet another Blue Tornado from the state championship squad has committed to play football at the collegiate level. Paducah Tilghman’s Josh Campbell signed his letter of intent on Monday to Kentucky Wesleyan to continue his football career as a wide receiver.
The senior racked up over 1,300 receiving yards in his time as a Blue Tornado. This past year, he tallied 48 receptions for 658 yards, and led the team in touchdowns with 16.
“I’m pretty excited,” Campbell said about the commitment. “It’s another chapter in my life I get to go into. It’s another accomplishment I’m making, so I’m happy I get to go and play at the next level.”
Campbell held his signing on Monday at Paducah Tilghman High School around his family, friends, and teammates, a group Campbell credits for his success.
“Without my support system, I wouldn’t be able to sign today. They helped me and they backed me a lot, so I’m really grateful.”
“All four years were pretty tough for me,” Campbell said about the recruiting process. “In my senior year it really picked up. Kentucky Wesleyan were the ones that really believed in me, so now I get to go prove everyone else wrong.”
Belief was a main factor in his decision to attend Kentucky Wesleyan. He believes that school will maximize his talent, and will make an immediate impact on the field.
“They accepted me of who I am. There really wasn’t much thought into it. They just let me have the opportunity to go there and show off my skills.”
Although Josh wrapped up his high school football career back in December, he is still a key piece of the Paducah Tilghman boys basketball team. They are currently in the middle of a postseason run, now competing in the First Region tournament this Wednesday after capturing the Second District title.
Josh Campbell has left a legacy as a Blue Tornado after his successful career on the field and on the court, and now will attempt to do the same as a Panther next season.
