Four members of the PTHS Band of Blue will travel to Europe this summer on an international performance tour. Sophomores Tessa Martin and H.G. Page along with seniors Mikhail Pacheco and Mackenzie Walton were nominated by Band Director James Gregory and completed the application process. The tour is coordinated by Kentucky Musicians Abroad and will be led by Dr. Frederick Speck, director of bands at the University of Louisville and Dr. Kent Hatteberg, director of choral activities at the University of Louisville.
The group will gather on the campus of the University of Louisville on June 25 for five days of rehearsal, then will leave for a 16-day performance tour on June 30. The touring group will include an orchestra, band and choir of 300 students. The group will travel in six countries and give six performances in some of the great cities of Europe including London, Paris, Luxembourg, and Amsterdam.
H.G., Tessa, and Mackenzie said they are looking forward to exploring different foods and cultures as they travel in Europe, but beyond that they see the trip as an opportunity to share their musical talent.
“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to make music in other countries,” said Tessa. “We get to share our musical gift, and we know that we’re lucky to have the chance to do that.”
