Paducah Middle School is taking their district motto to “know each child by name and need” to heart with the Sneakers for Success initiative—a program that provides deserving students and those in need the opportunity to win brand-new shoes to wear to the school’s second annual Excellence Extravaganza and Sneaker Ball.
“We know our children deserve to be celebrated for their outstanding accomplishments this year, and they need to do it in style!” says Principal Geco Ross.
7th grade Science teacher, Lynnette Harris, is chairing the program for the 2nd year in a row; under her efforts, the program was able to donate 122 pairs of shoes to Paducah Middle School students last year. She says, “For me, the most rewarding moment of last year’s giveaways came when a student brought his sneakers back to the office to be given to someone else! He told us his family could buy him sneakers for the event, and he wanted these to go to someone who didn’t have that opportunity.”
Teachers and staff can recommend students to be entered into a drawing for sneakers based on academics, good character, work ethic, or need. The program is entirely funded by generous donors in our community that understand how creating magical moments like these can impact a child forever.
