As Paducah Head Start Preschool makes progress toward opening next January, there are many improvements that will be obvious as you walk through the building. But one of the most important improvements will be unseen: cleaner air because of the Medformance Green Tech in-duct air purifiers that will be installed throughout the new building.
Moving air through an HVAC system allows more passes through the filtration system to continuously clean the air. Clean and healthy air can be achieved by moving the air through a high-quality air purification system. Since the air purifiers are installed in the ductwork, air purification is distributed evenly throughout the building.
In-duct air purifiers use photocatalytic oxidation to eliminate airborne volatile organic compounds, ozone, odors, and chemical vapors. They can remove up to 99.9% of the particle pollutants which children, the elderly, and people with respiratory conditions are vulnerable to.
While the in-duct air purification system with be unseen, Paducah Head Start Director Kristy Lewis believes that the positive effects with be quite visible.
“One of our main goals is to keep our staff and students safe in a healthy learning environment,” said Director Kristy Lewis. “With the installation of the in-duct air purifiers in our new building, we’ll be one step closer to ensuring that everyone in our building is breathing clean, germ-free air, which should result in less time lost to sickness for both our students and staff.”
Brad Cleaver, Vice-President of Sales for MEDformance who worked with Paducah Head Start and Marcum Engineering on the design of the system, believes that the air purification system is one more building block that will create an indoor environment that helps students as they begin their education.
“Arguably, there is no better time to embrace the benefits of cleaner indoor air than when young learners are building the cornerstones of their lifelong learning journeys,” said Cleaver. “Improving indoor air quality has been correlated to better test scores, better overall health and well-being, and improved work performance. We are pleased to be partners with Paducah Head Start in helping their students be healthy and ready to learn.”
