The Paducah Schools STAY (School + Transition Services for Youth) Program has donated books related to hunger and homelessness to the district's school libraries to help raise awareness about Hunger and Homelessness Month, which occurs in November. The books are being provided through a local grant, said Heather Anderson, the district's McKinney-Vento Liaison who directs the program.
"Our mayor has declared November Hunger and Homelessness Awareness month for the city of Paducah," said Anderson. "We hope the addition of these books to our libraries will encourage students and parents to understand the issues of hunger and homeless more deeply and consider ways that they can help their neighbors who may be struggling."
Paducah Middle School Library Media Specialist Jessica Ringstaff said the library was grateful to receive the books.
" With hunger and homelessness come a diversity of other problems that also get presented in books, so you will have people with different abilities, different backgrounds, different economic statuses, and different health issues presented in these books. So not only is this bringing advocacy to the issues of hunger and homelessness, but also a lot of other issues as well."
